ELECTION NIGHT CANVASS

Election Date: April 7, 2026

Polling Location: Theresa Village Hall

Time: Immediately following the close of polls (8:00 pm)

1. Close of Polls (8:00 p.m.)

• Announce closing of polls
• Allow all voters in line at 8:00 p.m. to vote

2. Secure the Polling Place

• Lock doors (no additional voters admitted)
• Allow credentialed observers to enter/exit
• Maintain order and chain of custody for ballots and materials

3. Reconcile Number of Voters

• Verify total voters in poll book
• Verify number of voter slips
• Compare to number of ballots issued

4. Ensure Absentee Ballots have been processed

• Ensure all accepted absentee ballots are included in the count
• Verify absentee certificate envelopes are completed

5. Tabulator Results Tapes

• Hand count ballots

6. Review Write-In Votes

• Record valid write-in votes
• Ensure proper documentation on tally sheets

7. Complete Required Forms
8. Reconcile Ballots

• Ballots cast + spoiled + unused = total ballots received
• Resolve discrepancies before proceeding

9. Public Announcement of Results

• Read results aloud at polling place
• Post results tape publicly

10. Secure Election Materials

• Seal ballots in proper containers
• Complete chain of custody documentation
• Prepare materials for delivery/return

11. Adjournment

• Final review to ensure all materials are accounted for
• Officially close the polling place
